Ed Sheeran plans ahead to reduce IP litigation

IP lawsuits cost money, time, creativity and mental health

Ed Sheeran and songwriter Johnny McDaid said in that fighting the recent copyright suit 'got really heavy and that their creativity and mental health suffered'.

George Harrison once said he is 'scared to touch the piano in case he touches someone else's note'.
In the patent world people stopped reading other people's patents in case they were found to have wilfully infringed the IP.

It is fair to say that some IP litigation seems to be the playthings and paydays of lawyers, and not necessarily in the best interest of either party.

Ed Sheeran now video records every single songwriting and recording session to help defend against copyright infringement suits.

Kurt Brasch Director of patents at Uber creates a story around each patent they file so that if and when they are involved in litigation they have it to hand to help persuade a jury of their case

Preparing in advance makes good sense. Date stamping and 'banking' proof of your own IP can be very helpful.
