KP is going Nuts about hacked secrets

KP Snacks has been hit by a cyber-attack impacting their ability to receive and supply orders – leading to shortages of KP Nuts, McCoy’s,  and Hula Hoops!
 
KP Snacks data has apparently been listed on hacker group Conti’s confidential ‘data leak page’. The site apparently contains “confidential agreements, and other sensitive documents, as well as credit card statements, employee birth certificates, addresses and phone numbers”.

Usually there are significant disincentives to report cyber breaches and acknowledge the loss of secrets, due to the likely damage to reputation. In this case however KP had no choice as their ability to supply customers has been disrupted.
 
Loss of sensitive documents will probably include trade secrets.
 
The important issue at stake is the treatment and management of secrets. With confidential information, trade secrets and PII there has to be layers of protection (physical, digital and policy) also, limitations to access to this information with the associated access controls and programmes.
