Restrict who has access to state and trade secrets – even the Prime Minister!

Access to state secrets was restricted for Boris Johnson because it was thought the risk of breach was too high.

When he was foreign secretary the then Prime Minister, Theresa May, felt it was too risky to share top secret information with him. As PM his Downing Street flat apparently had sensitive pink ‘STRAP’ documents strewn around for visitors to see, so they made him read it elsewhere. (STRAP material is highly classified that way because it may depend on covert human intelligence sources, so leaks could put the source's life in danger).

This perfectly illustrates key points with trade secrets in business and that is that all secrets should be kept as secrets, categorised (high, medium, low etc) and access restricted according to a policy relating to who needs to know and under what terms.
